TEAMS OF THE WEEK

Penn State Fayette Softball

The Fayette softball team won its first-ever PSUAC Championship on Sunday, completing a historic run and becoming the lowest-seed to win the crown. The 7-seed claimed victories over each of the top three seeds in the tournament, toppling 2-seed Penn State Schuylkill 5-1 on Friday in an elimination game, then beating 3-seed Penn State Mont Alto by the same score on Saturday in the double-elimination portion of the event. A 12-4 win over 1-seed Penn State New Kensington set up another meeting with Mont Alto in the championship, where Fayette won a 14-8 decision to complete the impressive run.

Penn State Mont Alto Baseball

The Penn State Mont Alto Baseball team won four consecutive games, three in one day, to defend its title and earn a second consecutive PSUAC championship. Mont Alto defeated Penn State Dubois in the loser’s bracket final (9-2) before defeating Penn State Hazleton in back-to-back games (4-2, 15-4). Mont Alto was 11-5 in conference play and 31-15 overall this season. Mont Alto finished the season first in hits (442), home runs (47), RBI (359) and runs scored (385). 

SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK 9

Makenzee Kennedy, Penn State Fayette

First Year

Greensburg, Pa.

Right-handed pitcher Makenzee Kennedy appeared in six games for Penn State Fayette during the week, going 4-1 as her team earned its first PSUAC championship. Kennedy got the win in the championship game, a 14-8 victory of Penn State Mont Alto, and worked 38 innings as she made five starts and one other mount appearance during the week. She pitched five complete games, including four over the weekend, striking out 19 batters while pitching every inning of the PSUAC Softball Championship Tournament for Fayette.

SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK 9

Kylie Stevenson, Penn State Fayette

Second Year

Greensburg, Pa.

First baseman Kylie Stevenson helped power Penn State Fayette to its first PSUAC softball championship. In six games, she batted .667 (12 of 18) with 10 RBI. She smacked three home runs, a triple and three doubles during the week as Fayette upset each of the top three seeds in the tournament. She drew five walks and hit home runs in three of the four tournament games. Stevenson finished the season at the PSUAC’s leading home run hitter. Stevenson came up clutch when it mattered most, collecting hits in seven straight at-bats in Fayette's final two games of the tournament.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK 9

Elijah White, Penn State Mont Alto

Second Year

Surprise, Ariz. 

Left-handed pitcher Elijah White helped lead Penn State Mont Alto to the conference championship for the second year in a row. White pitched in three games, going 3-0 with one complete game. He struck out 11 batters and walked seven during 16 1/3 innings of work, including allowing just seven hits and three runs over two games on back-to-back days of the PSUAC Baseball Tournament. He surrendered just four earned runs during the three games as Mont Alto won three games on Sunday to finish claim the repeat title.

BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK 9

Wyatt Kissel, Penn State Mont Alto

Third Year

Chambersburg, Pa.

Infielder Wyatt Kissel was productive and steady for Penn State Mont Alto during its run to a second consecutive conference championship. Kissel batted .567 (17 of 30) with two home runs, three doubles and nine RBI. He drew three walks and struck out only twice in eight games as he amassed 26 total bases and scored nine runs. Kissel also came up with clutch hits during the PSUAC Baseball Championship Tournament, including a game-tying home run in the seventh inning in an extra innings win over Penn State Shenango in an elimination game on Saturday. He helped clinch the title with a four-hit performance in the deciding game.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Jayden Bell, Penn State Mont Alto 

First Year

Fairfield, Pa.

Right-handed pitcher Jayden Bell made three mount appearances for Penn State Mont Alto and went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings of work during the PSUAC Championship Tournament. He scattered six hits while striking out four and walking two as Mont Alto earned its second consecutive conference champiosnhip, eating up valuable innings as his team made its way back from the loser's bracket to win the title.
