Women’s Volleyball: Lady Wildcats Notch First Win of Season
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women's volleyball team defeated Penn State Hazleton 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) Thursday night. The win is the first on the season and opens the Lady Wildcats to a perfect 1-0 record in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. Junior Courtney Gernert (Palmyra) recorded a season high 16 kills in the win and freshman Cathleen Aviles (Robesonia) had a career high 29 assists.
In set one, Hazleton (0-2, 0-1 PSUAC) had an early run to take the lead before the Lady Wildcats came back and took over the lead. They controlled the next two sets evenly, never giving up the lead.
As a team, Penn College (1-4, 1-0 PSUAC) totaled 10 aces with senior Rachel Heller (Allison Park), sophomore Loralee Lindemuth (Tidioute) and freshman Ashlee Dick (Petersburg) each recording two.
Next up, the Lady Wildcats travel to Lycoming College for a quad match with Baptist Bible College, Elmira College and Ithaca College on Saturday, Sept. 14.
